On Listening and Voicing -- a special guest post by Rachel Awes

Dear Creative Souls,

Happy April! Today we have an extra special guest. My dear friend and soul-sister, Rachel Awes is here with a BOUNTY of goodness -- empowering poems, free art downloads, and some incredibly helpful prompts for you to dive into. It's all geared around a big theme I am honoring this year -- VOICE. From inner-voice to outer-voice, to all the ways your voice longs to show up and express itself.

Have you met Rachel before?? She is pure joy, pure depth, and pure dee-light. Let me introduce you to her, and her special brand of magic --

Rachel Awes

This is Rachel. Isn't she a candy colored delight of a human?! She is an author, psychologist, and art playgroundist. She is fully-present, and fully gifted in listening -- her first book "All I did was Listen" is super inspiring (along with all her books, "The Great Green Okayness" and "Diving In")

Without further ado, here's some delicious goodness for us, from Rachel.

Her Voice by Rachel Awes

We are all treasure chests
with hearts in the middle
and we get to make room for
what really belongs inside.

Water.
Mandalas.
Surprises.
Creating.
Intertwining with the good.
Planting.
Marinating.
Being our fullest.
Growing.
Being authentic.
Receiving.
Dressing up.
Being deliberate with
what we keep in
and what we keep out.
Engaging in what we love.
Listening to what we want.
Trusting our thoughts.
Waking up to wonderment.
Pressing imperfectly on.

Gems will appear when we listen.
Voices will be heard.
Even sung.
They have been there all along.
Needing to be mined

and they are
all mine
and they are
all yours.

My Words Come out Good by Rachel Awes

I am practicing
saying words
that come out of my heart.
Like they do
before falling asleep.
Like they do
when sitting with
a trusted friend.
Like they do
when writing next to
a big lake.

I am paying attention
to what happens
when
I give myself
space
to do this
important work.

The shower invites me
to sing bigger.
Canyons coax me
to be heard.

It is how
our world is made.
It is how

we are made.

Creative exercise with VOICE

Get our markers, crayons, finger paint, or whatever suits your fancy, and put what your voice looks like on paper or canvas. What are the colors? Shapes? Words or no words? Feelings? Needs? Treasures? Secrets? Dreams? Invitations?
Write a love letter to your voice. Trusting one’s voice tends to develop around age 9. Maybe consider a love letter to your inner 9 year old. What does she need to know?
Practice hearing your words, through a voice recorder or in the shower or singing in the car. Practice holding your voice with compassion.
If you could give your voice a new practice, what would you love to do? Read stories out loud? Sing? Tell your truths in the dark or to a waterfall or to your angels?
Write a poem using “VOICE” as acronym, like:

V oice turned
O n AND
I nspiring
C ourageous
E mergence.

Listen
1. How did you listen to your inner knowing and wisdom as a child? What memories arise?
How about as a teenager, young adult, and now?
2. What messages throughout your life have inhibited such listening? What have you come
to fear about listening to your heart? What might be new messages you can give from
your wise self to your scared self?
3. What helps you to listen to your heart? Art-making/creative projects? Walking in
nature? Journaling? Prayer? Meditation? A silent retreat? Talking with a trusted friend?
Talking with a therapist? Talking with a healer? Massage/body work?
4. What if you created an invitation to listen to your inner wisdom? In the form of
handwriting on a card? A painting? A collage? A vision board?

Speak
1. Psychologists say that we develop a sense of voice around age 9. What was happening
for you around that age? Were you coming to trust your voice, hide it, question it? What
stories were influencing your voice journey?
2. What are memories of you using your voice? Hiding your voice? Who supported your
words and who discouraged? What are you choosing to tell yourself now?
3. How do you currently care for your voice? How do you feel about your boundaries of
who you share your truths with and how much you share?
4. How do you currently feel inspired to use your voice? Are there words you want to say
to a particular person? To a group? To the world? To yourself?

All shared with LOVE & DIVINE SUPPORT for your listening & speaking & whole
life, XOX,

21 SECRETS Give-A-Way

21 SECRETS is in full swing with oodles of creative souls swirling about and tapping into what I see as a glorious buffet of inspiration. There really is a special brew happening within this space and it's not too late to jump on board. . .  I would love for YOU to be a part of it.

Without further ado: I am Giving-A-Way one FREE ticket to the land of 21 SECRETS! All you have to do is leave a comment here. Bonus points for sharing this post in your social media outlets, or forwarding it to a friend. I will randomly choose a name / number at the end of the week. . . !! You can also give your spot as a gift!

Can I just tell you how deep and wide this all feels right now, how incredibly vulnerable it feels to be stepping further into this realm of Who I Am? I am clarifying my Original Medicine and using it Powerfully in my Life and Eee-offerings! Legend of YOU  is here on the horizon, patiently waiting its final touches...

I am here. . .
Wind and Weeds.
Gathering Clues.
Listening Closely.

Love and Green Lights,
Carissa

PS. I can't even begin to express how beautiful it is to witness those who are currently "Following the Wild Winds". Each person has literally blown me away. More on this soon. . . .

Full Steam Ahead

Good-day creative mates, I've been plotting out some fun new ways to reengage with blogging, stay inspired and share my creative magic without getting overwhelmed. Aside from putting 97% of my creative energy toward my first eee-course, Legend of You (I may be taking a while to piece it together but the wait will be worth it. I have never been more proud of anything in my life. I imagine it's what mothers must feel when their first child is born. That's the kind of energy I feel. Also that all my other "birthing" won't take as long after this...)

I'm cooking up some other fun projects, goals, and challenges to explore + blog about this year.  Here are some ideas I'm churning around:

  1. Creative In-spur-ation: inner and outer things to spur the creative journey.
  2. Silly Sunday: something silly for the sake of pure silliness. Say that 10 times fast. This week I played dress-up (see last photo).
  3. Week-In-Pictures: A visual wrap up & some words on my journey each week. Trying to come up with a better name for this, but for now. . .
  4. 365 NightlyWanderings: 4 or 5 years ago I started to draw every night in bed. I wanted to improve my drawing skills, end my days creatively, and take advantage of that sleepy head-space to hopefully follow and collect strands of subconscious wisdom. I have rekindled this love affair and I'm taking it to bed with me every night via my iPad. A bit erotic? (^.^) More on this soon!
  5. Healing for ACOA's: It's no secret anymore -- I've only shared little glimpses of my journey to wholeness after being raised by an alcoholic, but I'm ready to step out of the closet with the fact I am an "adult child of an alcoholic" and I have wandered down many windy roads to get here and I am ready to help others (ACOA's and beyond) overcome and become whole again. Yes. The aftermath IS beautiful...

WEEK IN PICTURES:

S P A C E carved out in my studio. Hung shelves above and created a massive bulletin board.
A messy little squirrel nest made of leaves I admire every morning.

A place to storyboard Legend of You .
To see it. To feel it (and other-such-dreams) made real. My intuition led me here and I'm loving it.

 NEW ART

Midweek: pushed past resistance and showed up to yoga class. Kundalini yoga has been one of the greatest experiences and teachers of my entire life.

Made the best coconut chicken curry of my life.
Felt the fierceness of  what SHOWING UP can do. Do you know this feeling of pushing past?! Of showing up in the dark? Roooooar! (it moves mountains)

Some video stills: Week 3: Legend of You / Getting Grounded.

More video stills: found the legends of THIS TREE. . . what it had to share.

Dressed in blues and silvers under the NEW MOON!

Kissed stoic lions.
Ended it all with SILLY SUNDAY. Played dress up.

This week was all about resistance and moving forward. Onward and through. FULL STEAM AHEAD.

With my whole heart.

I send you love and all green lights. Wayne Dyer

21 SECRETS / Following the Wild Winds

Today is the day -- 21 SECRETS is officially official. I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing brew of women. I am also thrilled to finally reveal what I'll be sharing with you:

"Following the Wild Winds"
Take a courageous voyage through your thoughts and feelings using words, colors and figures to expressively spill yourself into your journals. This workshop will guide you to listen, see subtle signs and clues and explore them deeper. Whether it’s transformation you’re seeking or just a new way to let loose in your pages, “Following the Wild Winds” is an invitation to see yourself and the world around you from new heights.  It is also an invitation to get out -- take soul-full walks, listen to animal messengers, sit still and be illuminated by your discoveries. Once you embrace the Wild Winds they will carry you to where you’re meant to be.

"Wisdom Begins in Wonder"-socrates

I am at a loss for words! This past weekend I held the first Wonder Books workshop in downtown Sanford at the Jeanine Taylor Folk Art Gallery where 8 wonder-full women gathered round and opened wide, let looooose and freeeee. Each with their own unique and wild voice. A total dream! The messages that came through serendipitously to everyone through blind pickings and painted unfoldings was a true joy to witness. The happy mistakes, the pushing through, the connections and magic that happen when creative women get together. It's a true force of nature. . . a cyclone of creative energy with all sorts of happy heart sparkles dashing about the room. Hugest thanks to our hostess with the mostest -- Mary K Shaw and Jeanine Taylor for the holding the most glorious space.

I have been working long & hard to bring this and other eee-courses to you very soon! Sign up for my newsletter in the upper right to find out when.

The art featured on the walls is a collection of "Delicate Creatures" by Carolina Cleere. We were all so happy to create amongst her creatures!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last but not least:
A sugary-sweet-collab between me -n- Rachel Awes!!

Space Holding / Holding Space unfolded back and forth with pure magic and joy. It is a reminder of the sacred essentialness of Space Holding for ourselves, our hearts, and others -- a reminder than when we get together creatively and work together creatively we amplify that energy and miraculous things bloom. To share in our journeys, to hold space for one another, to hold space for our art / our exploding hearts, to hold space for our everything we've been through to guide and lead, to BLESS / HONOR / and BURY the rest.

Taking all of that wisdom gathered in wonder-ing and sprinkling it into the lives of others. . . .

This print is a reminder of the power that comes from Space Holding. Click here to get a print!

Feeling The Expansive

I can hardly believe January is almost over! I've filled this month with some deep soul-searching, major dialoging, cataloging, trail following, exploring, photographing, writing, and sweeping up the scatters of so many things. I've made a happy-little-list of all the glorious lessons and experiences 2011 had to offer, and what I'd like to welcome in for the ever-expansive 2012. I will share it here soon, but for now I just wanted to say a big-whopping THANK YOU. Thank you for allllll your immense L O V E on my Cover Girl post.
I am entirely, utterly, fantastically blessed by all of you -- true and deep friends, my soul sisters, my fellow passengers on this ride we call life. Daring, dreaming, dangerous WILD WOMEN and MEN. . . Glorious tears fill my eyes as I think about all the garbage I've left behind so I could step fully into *this life*. This true and beautiful, ever light, ever buoyant, ever unfolding life. I'm so glad I swung off the closet doors into the here & now, and climbed into the me I've always been. As I continue to clean out the shelves, and shake off old dust, I am completely thankful for alllll of it. Thank you for being here, for being a witness to my ever-evolving carousel. I am so deeply blessed by YOU.
More and more collages fill my space. . . Did you know the first collage I had made in a long looonnng time was Own Your Story? Truthfully, I was getting wayyy too comfortable in my process, always painting my girls. When this piece landed on the cover of Somerset Studios, not only was it a huge sign to really step into myself, really, truly, fully and completely, *Own My Story* and *Write*, but also h u g e confirmation of the *Magic* that happens when we step outside of ourselves, our routines, explore deeper, and truly listen to the messages that appear. When. We. Just. Show. Up. The universe is conspiring for our happiness, our blissful existences, our growth, our change, our EVERYTHING! I am so wide awake grateful to just simply exist and create and share and inspire. Hellooo!!!
